“It pays to be green” and so there are several lenders in the marketplace who are looking to do their bit to encourage us to buy green homes or to improve the energy efficiency of our current homes.

Green mortgages are available for properties that hold an energy performance certificate (EPC) that meets a specific threshold. This threshold can differ from one lender to another however typically the minimum rating is either a B or a C. These mortgages can come with a lower interest rate or an additional cashback payment when compared with other products from a lender’s range. The process to apply for a green mortgage is the same as that for a standard mortgage.

Peter Baker, Path Mortgages Director says:
“I am delighted to see that lenders are taking these steps towards protecting our environment for future generations. We are also really pleased to say that we can offer a range of green mortgages from a wide range of lenders.”
